HI am an independent Insurance appraiser / adjuster. In a nutshell I look at wrecked tractor trailers, and estimate damages, reparability, or if they are a total loss or not. I like this job for the freedom I have, and I can live my biker lifestyle and still be a somewhat respected professional, if you want to call it that. Freedom is for me in all aspects of my life. After about 13 yrs of roofing, I was ready for a change. Roofing is the hardest job I ever had, I am good at it, I made lots of money doing it, and I perfected or became very proficient at most aspects of it. My specialty was metal work and commercial flat roofing. I did do shingling, but hated it with a passion. I'll take hot tar over shingles any day!!!! Next time you see a roofer, and think they are a lower class person. Go up on a roof when its 90+ degrees out, no shade, and then slop down 550 degree hot tar, do it for 8-10 hours or more a day, all week long. Then decide what kind of person it takes to do that kind of work.
Now for my job I have been doing, well licensed to do since 1994. Here are some wrecks I have looked at over the years. Some the drivers walked away from, some went to the hospital, and others went into the ground. There are no bodies in these pictures, you wont see the blood, but its there, trust me. Sometimes it creeps back in, meaning feeling the loss and death. But like most jobs dealing with twisted steel and trauma, you develop a shell around you. As I said, at times it does affect a person. How can it not?
